Welcome!
Richmond Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is a registered charity that operates two shelters in the City of Richmond, British Columbia. Our first shelter, on No. 6 Road in Richmond, is North America's largest cat sanctuary. At this shelter homeless and abandoned cats and kittens are rescued and cared for. Most of these beautiful animals would have otherwise faced starvation, injury, disease and an early death due to the many hazards in their environment. The cat sanctuary is currently home to more than 800 animals.
Our second shelter is the City of Richmond Animal Shelter, which we have operated since February 2007. In 2006, RAPS bid for and was awarded the city contract to take over operation of this shelter. By expanding to a second facility, RAPS now cares for a wider variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and other small domestic animals. In addition, the RAPS City Shelter runs a comprehensive adoption program to find the animals at this facility a safe and loving home.

Ongoing Events & Programs
Coins for Cats & Dollars for Dogs Everyday! The Richmond Animal Shelter is collecting Coins for Cats & Dollars for Dogs. Everyone accumulates a lot of small change, and that change can make a big difference for homeless animals at the Richmond Animal Shelter. Collect your small change and then come visit the shelter animals and add your small change to our fundraising bottle to feed homeless animals! The animals will appreciate your visit and your donation. Thanks!
DNA My Dog Kits Available at the Richmond Animal Shelter Do you wonder what kind of dog you have? If so, pick up a DNA My Dog kit at the Richmond Animal Shelter. These kits instruct you on how to get a DNA sample from your dog to find out his or her breed combination. (Don't worry! It's easy and painless!) The kit and processing costs about $60.00 plus GST+shipping. (This is the same cost as if you purchased the kit from the company, DNA-My-Dog). DNA-My-Dog will donate the proceeds towards the care of shelter dogs with special medical needs. Also, after you get your results, send us an email and picture of your dog and let us know what kind of dog he or she is. Kits are available for a $10 donation to RAPS (which is included in the $60.00 plus GST+shipping). The remainder of the cost is paid directly to DNA-My-Dog.
